My only problem with the product is that it came with a rocker switch instead of the pull chain shown in the picture and my wife is unable to reach the lights to turn them on. I bought two and installed them in a large shed (10' x 14') and they give off a fair amount of light. I still need a flashlight for some areas but was not expecting it to be any better.

Worked for a couple days, but not anymore. Less than a month, perhaps being on for a total of 10 minutes.

I charged it before using it. It gets plenty of sunlight, but the battery seems to be junk.

There might be other solar lights that will work for you, but perhaps a simple flashlight/lantern would work better. At least when the battery dies, you can replace it.

Useless. The amount of light it gives off is less than those little LED Sylvania button lights. Obviously, this isn't going to give sufficent light for even the smallest 40 square foot sheds out there. A hand flashlight gives out a heck of a lot more light. Do yourself a favor and just buy a flashlight and leave it in the shed than to go through the trouble of buying this hunk of junk.

Having read reviews that the fluorescent bulb was dim, I was careful to purchase the LED model. However, it is also dim. Barely produces enough light to keep me from tripping in my shed, not enough to distinguish tools and definitely not a work light. Very disappointing. After several days of charging I turned it on and only 4 of the 5 LEDs lit. I did not purchase from Amazon. Went in round and round discussions with retailer and manufacturer about warranty replacement. Retailer would only replace if whole unit returned within 30 days, but after all the trouble to mount solar panel on roof I didn't want to take that down. Turns out there is no warranty. Product guide says to consult retailer for warranty service, retailer says they don't do it. Finally got a replacement but was not refunded shipping and insurance. If you do purchase this product, my advice is to charge it up before mounting anything to test it.

I had an older Schumacher that only had a 50 amp emergency boost, which was inadequate for most emergencies, so when that disappeared, I bought this SE-125A. I left it on the 2 amp charger setting for awhile on my Porsche's 12v battery while it was still connected in the car. It fully charged it and as stated in the owner's manual, when set on the 2 amp charge, the green light will not light when the battery is fully charged. The 15 amp, 12v automatic setting will turn on the green light when the battery is charged, but I wouldn't leave it like this for too long. I looked at the meter and the green light was lit, then the charger would stop charging with the meter falling off to the right. At the same time the green light would shut off, but then the meter would swing back to the left (charging again) and the green light would go on. This cycle took about 5 seconds to complete. After watching this happen many times over a period of 2 minutes, I unplugged it, feeling that can't be good for the Schumacher's longevity. It does the job and the price is right. The cord attached to the unit is relatively short, so you'll need a high quality 3-pronged extension cord if you want to use this charger while the battery is still connected in your vehicle.

This battery charger is ok but poorly built. The carry handle was not attached at all on one side. The metal case is as thin as an aluminum can and only held on bu a couple screws that were not tightened. The case is the biggest concern, it flexes and bends with every movement and the face panel feels like it will fall off at any moment.

It does charge well so far.......

I bought this solar charger last weekend. It did not take too much time to setup, however it did take quite long (about 4 hours) to get fully charged. Then, I used this charger to charge my cell phone without any difficulty. This made me feel good because it was the first time that I used green energy directly. Over all, it is well designed and easy to use. The case can be more slim and some switches can be combined, a little bit confusing though.

"Works, saves my battery from evil drains" 2010-03-23

This was my hacky solution for way-too-many untraceable drains in my truck. Now I just cut power when I park, and the battery reads the same when I come back. It even has provisions to wire up some accessories to continue to receive power and not lose settings, but right now I don't care - I no longer have to charge my battery every week!

OK so my usage is not typical for this device - it's meant to shut off automatically at 11.8V as a last resort, but I don't need to wait that long or keep my battery that low - I know it will get there in 4-5 days :)

Anyway, unit works as advertised, drains nothing when off, allows me to shut off the battery (hold button for 2 seconds) and to connect it back (just push the button). It probably shuts off automatically too, not tested. It comes with a good assortment of adapters for installations of most types - posts, screw terminals, etc - and even straight and 90 degree adapters for relocation should you have room shortage in your vehicle. Mine is in a Ram 2500 (V10) and mounted directly on top of the terminal, but I have the vertical space to hide small hybrids under the hood, If you don't, you can mount it on the side of the battery or even on the firewall with some creativity and possibly one short battery cable from a parts store.

You also get a fused wire for one accessory you may wish to leave permanently connected. The way it works is by connecting directly from the battery + terminal to the fuse socket for the circuit - you remove the fuse and insert a blade terminal in its place. Looks weird, but it's effective (and how else would you isolate a circuit?). I may hook up my PCM circuit that way, as right now I'm losing the trip meter each time I power off (not to mention a rough idle until the PCM figures out what it's doing).

Installation is fairly easy, but does require a bit of basic coordination, especially to pull wire to where you want the button. If you're not into pulling wire and drilling a hole to mount the button, get the type III and use the wireless remotes. In my case, I wanted absolutely no unnecessary electrical drains (even though apparently the type III only uses 3-5mA for the radio receiver).

In summary, it works, seems solid enough, and hopefully outlasts the car. For me, it saved me from hours of trying to trace drains, replacing partially failed components, etc - in other words, saved me money. Yay.

I purchased a Battery Brain Gold Type 4 from Amazon. The item I received was a Battery Brain Bronze. The inherent problem was that the factory box was marked inconsistently. On one side it said Battery Brain Gold [IV] - and on the other was checked Battery Brain Bronze. I received the Bronze. This screw up was due to the manufacturer. When I tried to exchange it for the correct one, that was not possible because Amazon said they were sold out. All they offered was a refund. I decided to keep it and try to make it do what I needed done. BIG MISTAKE. This is the first time I was really disappointed with an Amazon purchase.

The good points have already been covered by other reviewers, so I won't repeat them here. The weaknesses of this product are the fan with too-cheap bearings, and the plastic clamps. When (not if) the fan starts to make grinding noises, it can be fixed by applying lubrication (Google computer fan fixes) to the bearing. The hard part is how to fix broken clamps. If the clamp slips off of the battery terminal, it will "bite itself" hard in a quick snap; this is sufficient to crack the plastic clamp(s), which due to the plastic construction, some parts may fly. Don't get me wrong, the plastic is not thin and flimsy, it appears thick and robust, but just no match for the spring when it snaps shut. It should have been made of metal, such as copper plated steel.

If you need a fast and "smart" lead-acid charger with all the extra features (like desulfation and equalization), this is the charger for you.

Previously, I had purchased a B&D 2/6/10 smart charger and it works pretty well, but for larger batteries it can take a while to fully recharge them.

This B&D (made by Vector) 2/10/15 is up to 50% faster than that model because it can supply up to 15amps of current in the bulk charge stage (stage 1). But it still utilizes a smart charging algorithm and can supply a charge of as low as 0.6 amps (from my observation on the display when in the float charge stage). It also worked great for a scenario where I had 2 deep-cycle lead-acids wired in parallel.

Unlike the 2/6/10 charger, this charger has a desulfation feature where it pulses current thru the battery to break up the sulfate crystals and (hopefully) restore capacity to older batteries. In my case, I had a "solar" AGM battery which would no longer take a charge with the 2/6/10 charger. So I hooked up this 2/10/15 charger and pushed the "desulfate" button and let it do its thing for the next 12 or so hours. Well, apparently it worked as it was able to get the battery to take a 2-amp charge again. I have not tested the "equalize" feature yet, but overall this unit appears to work well.

The battery clamps are good, too. Concave curved on one side, claw-like contacts on the other. Good for connecting to a multitude of battery terminal types.

The units cooling fan is a bit on the noisy side, but I typically leave this charger outside my house or in the garage, so I never hear it.

It's a pretty fast charger and probably the best bang-for-the-buck as it has pretty much all the features you would ever need at a good price.

This thing is a neat charger. I'm not sure what it does but it adjusts the current as it charges. You can see the current being adjusted on the LED screen so it's kind of interesting. And it beeps and says "FUL" when it's done charging. It somehow knows when the battery is full. And if your batteries are only partially drained, it usually only takes about 30 min to top them off. I love this charger. The alligator clips are just the right size for a small 12v 8ah battery (6lb). I was worried that the alligator clips might be too big but they work just right for my small battery. The seller got the product to me about 4 days before the delivery estimate so they get it out to you very fast. A good experience overall.

I use this for my Harley and my Corvette. I see one reviewer said it cannot be used with Automotive batteries. This is wrong! I use it on my 2008 Corvette. It keeps the battery on this car fully charged and ready for action! Granted, this is not strong enough to bring a battery back from the dead and it is not meant to. But it keeps a fully charged battery fully charged.

I studied up on this charger a bit before buying, as I have a lot of wheeled vehicles that always seem to have battery problems. I wanted something that would automatically shut down and prevent damage from overcharging. I wanted a charger that would quickly charge any size battery, even honking big golf car batteries. I also wanted a boost feature of at least 60A. Lastly, I didn't want to spend over $75.

The B&D BC40EWB fits the bill. Although I've only had it a couple of weeks, it seems to work great on everything. It has a very slick charge routine. It somehow senses the optimum charge rate, charges, tapers off, tops off, and shuts down, all automatically. At first I thought the display was a gimmick, as I'm highly partial to a good analog volt meter and ammeter. Turns out I was mistaken. It really tells you what's going on in pretty plain English.

The charger is so smart, and the program apparently so well written, it can handle most situations. Connect, set it, and forget it. (where have I heard that before?). It produces 110A of boost current, which will start most cars with weak batteries just fine. My old 55A started many cars, so 110A should be no sweat unless the battery is badly discharged.

The housing appears to be ABS plastic, like TV remotes. There is a pod of 5 membrane buttons for the different modes and functions, and have a satisfying tactile "clicky" quality. The cables and extension cord are appropriately heavy. The clamps are OK, being well constructed, but of copper plated steel. When plugging it in, be ready for a big POP at the wall outlet, as the apparently large capacitors suck up the first jolt of current. One little thing I dislike about it, the housing is a tad top heavy. If you accidentally tug on the cord or cables, instead of it sliding, it topples over. The heavy metal parts should have been installed on the base, it indeed they're not.

The only thing holding me back from a glowing review is the unit's durability. Unfortunately, I won't be able to report on that until the unit fails, or a year or 2, whichever comes first. So far, so good! If the unit fails, I will come back and edit, or create a follow up review. Meanwhile, I really like the unit. It's well thought-out, works great so far, and I highly recommend it.

"A piece of junk" 2009-08-12

My unit failed after less than three months in service under benign conditions. I had it hooked up to the battery of a truck stored in my garage. There was no smoke, no burnt smell, no indication of what might have gone wrong; the output voltage just measures zero. I took a chance and broke the seals to open it up, thereby voiding the "warranty", and found it has a glass fuse inside. The fuse was good. So, if the fuse were to blow, the only way to replace it is to void the warranty? How stupid is this?

If I had schematic diagrams, an oscilloscope and the inclination to do so, I could probably pore over the circuit board for 5-10 hours and find the failed part to get it going again, but I think it's easier to just go down to my nearest electronics surplus house and buy a 15 VDC, 2 A industrial linear power supply and modify it to put out 13.65 volts, the ideal float voltage for a "12 volt" lead-acid vehicle battery.

A battery tender should be expected to work flawlessly for years, not quit in less than three months. Sorry, Vector, this just doesn't cut it.

Couldn't tell if the product even worked at all (not counting over-charging) it did some really strange things w/it's "smart" L.E.D. diodes signaling "something".

Hope I didn't ruin a really expensive brand new battery on my Goldwing motorcycle!

When my 5 year limited product warranty registration was returned as being "unable to forward" by the Post Office, I went on-line to check on Vector Products. Turns out their being sued by "everybody-and-their-brother" in court (I used a tiny pull-down "more" button on the Yahoo search bar which contained all the "dirt" type results), including by reputable charger manufacturers for false claims and false advertising! I'm guessing that Vector must have been avoiding some sort of bankruptcy proceeding, I recall reading something about Black & Decker buying Vector Products, a while ago, and is handling their warranty problems, but the B&D web-site had no info regarding this.

Luckily I was still in time to return this product within the 30-day dead-line period. Amazon returns said "they couldn't replace it, only refund the money".

Let's be clear; to be honest, when I re-checked on Amazon (for a replacement float type battery charger), I couldn't believe they were still selling this thing! Are they kidding? It has to be some sort of product liquidation "blow-out", I'm surprised it's not on Ebay! I thought a seller like Amazon is supposed to be in the business of avoiding problems like this for their customers!

My faith as a frequent repeat buyer is really shaken!

I own 3 of these chargers. One for each of my vehicles that sits in the garage for several months of the year, undriven (2 motorcycles and 1 car). One of my motorcycles has a standard lead-acid battery, one has the newer AGM or gel-cell battery, and my car has an Optima yellow top.

This charger is exactly what it says it is.....a 2 amp float charger. It will recharge a weak motorcycle battery but its NOT made to recharge a dead car battery. It WILL in a pinch (if you left the dome light on overnight), but it takes a long time and the simple truth is that a dead car battery needs to be charged quickly to avoid the damage you already did by allowing it to go dead in the first place.

This charger is actually switchable between 1 or 2 amps. The 1 amp setting is good for motorcycles, the 2 amp setting is good for cars or for charging a weak motorcycle battery. Note: unlike other cheap chargers, this one forces the 1 or 2 amps of current full time until the battery reaches a fully charged state (as measured by voltage). Many other "trickle" chargers simply hold the battery at 14 volts and slowly cook it all winter long (slowly ruining the battery). This Vector VEC080 charger will not cook a healthy battery. As a matter of fact, it spends most of the winter 'off' just monitoring the battery.

The Vector VEC080 is a 2 stage charger. When you first connect it, it verifies the battery voltage. If its not a dead dead battery (shorted), the charger will engage the charging current. It holds a fixed current, while the voltage on the battery slowly rises. Once the voltage rises to roughly 14.4 or 14.5 volts (I can't remember which), the charger disengages the current and switches to 'float' mode. In float mode, the charger watches the battery voltage. A fully charged 12V lead-acid battery will sit between 13.6 and 13.65 volts. If the voltage on your battery drops below roughly 13.55 volts (representing about 90 to 95% charged), the charger re-engages the selected charging current.

Once charged, a healthy lead-acid battery only looses about 5% of charge per week. So in reality, once this charger is connected, it will only switch on about once a week. In a car, it might switch on once a day because all the electronics in the car help drain the battery a little faster. If you have a VEC080 connected, and its constantly turning on and off every 30 minutes all day long for weeks on end, you either have a significant drain on your battery or the battery is going bad (dead/shorted cell). Its good to learn that now before you actually take it out of the garage and get stranded on the road :)

The VEC080 comes with a quick-disconnect harness so you can quickly connect to your motorcycle or car at the end of the day without directly accessing the battery or popping the hood. It also comes with standard battery clamps. This unit is also produced under the Black & Decker brand as model# BM2B but its made by Vector.

"Works easier than advertised" 2009-11-04

I've only had this unit for about a month but use it nearly every day to charge storage batteries and solar power batteries if the sun isn't doing it's job well enough.

To jump through all the hype, all you need to do is connect the charger's clamps, select your battery type (regular, deep cycle, agm/gel), select the charge range, which determines the initial voltage, (small battery, regular battery, engine start) and that's it.

The size, in standard terms, is about 9-inches square and 5-inches tall... in case you aren't able to convert from metric (listed in the ad).

The digital display shows the charging voltage at the clamps but you can toggle the push-button to display the percent charge of the battery, or the percent output of your alternator if you are testing that. It's real handy to check on the battery percent charge to see how charging is going... I get antsy after a while and like to know where I stand on the charge... it's a guy thing I guess.

I have two other Schumacher chargers, all smaller capacity, but I like the automatic functions of this one, and the display takes the guesswork out of your charging progress.

When you purchase a battery charger, what does that mean? You have a dead battery. Right? This charger will not work if your battery is dead. There is a feature built in that will not allow it to recognize a battery with 0 charge. If I had a low battery, I could probably get it to start anyway. If you want to spend $100 for a batter charger that will not charge a dead battery, this is the product for you.

Thank God Amazon has wonderful customer service. They are giving me a full refund and paying for the return shipping.

This charger used to work great. The cord storage lugs fell off the first day but that did not affect how the unit charged so I just assumed this was 21st century design quality. However, after about 20 charges the charger ceased to sense the battery state during a charge. Of course, no feedback means no control. The charger continues to display whatever the initial charge state and continues to charge. Turn the charger off and the battery sense will eventually display the battery state. So I thought I would take advantage of the stated 5 year warranty and send it in to Schumacher for repair. OOPS! Forgot about 21st century responsibility. Schumacher requires the purchaser to send it the registration card to 'activate' the warranty. Great to keep in the garage. Works just like it says it will. Used it to jump a car battery zapped by extreme winter temps...did it within five minutes. The only downfall is that the electrical cord is very short. If I had to do it over again for convenience sake, I may have went with something that held a charge so that it could be taken with you/and you didn't have to carry an extension cord at all times. Still worth having though!

I purchased my first Power On Board 25 Amp Fully Automatic Battery Charger from Sam's Club for ten dollars more than the current Amazon price including shipping. The device, alternatively marketed as a Vector or Black & Decker product, requires only a single button push to automatically select the proper charging rate for the attached battery. The peak charge rate is 25A, but the unit can also pump out 75A for up to 1.5 minutes to jumpstart your car.

Lead-acid batteries that have remained in a discharged state for a long time internally build up lead sulfate which can inhibit normal charging. This charger has an operating mode designed to recondition sulfated batteries.

A cooling fan runs while charging, but turns off when charging is complete. The unit then automatically switches to float mode to maintain the battery at full charge. This is very important not only for convenience, but also to prolong battery life. Since the fan turns off after topping off the battery, it works well for building up relatively inexpensive, large capacity, indoor UPSs built around deep cycle batteries (make sure that the battery area is well ventilated and place the battery on an acid resistant drip pan to prevent damaging the floor).

The lightweight, compact, microprocessor controlled charger features a backlit, scrolling LCD display that provides charge rates, status messages and battery diagnostic information. The device is built well, especially considering its low price. The battery clamps have copper contacts and the cabling is heavy gauge. All cables can be stowed inside the charger.

From my experience with the Power On Board 25 Amp Fully Automatic Battery Charger, the device is an outstanding bargain.

I now own two of these as I liked the first one so well I bought one for my RV battery. I used the first one all year long on my motorcycle battery and it worked great. I can see it in the charge mode and also when it would "analyze" the battery to see if it needs a quick shot to keep it up to speed. I had one of these units, sold under the Vector brand name, fail in use after about three months for no obvious reason. It was hooked to the battery of a truck in long-term storage in a garage, in a benign environment. It's obviously of little use if one can't rely on it to keep a battery topped-off. Out of curiosity, I broke the seal and opened the unit. 120 VAC was still getting to the printed circuit and the on-board glass fuse was good, but the LEDs no longer lit up and there was no DC output. Something in the electronics simply failed.

Based on other adverse reviews here, it's obvious that the design is deficient and these units are unreliable. I still need a trickle or float charger, but the replacement unit won't be one of these.

I'm not sure what some of the other reviewers are using their's for but I run one all winter at 1 amp on my motorcycle and it performs flawlessly. I was going to by another lead for my boat starting battery because electrical loads on it drain it while I fish with the trolling motor. I thought, "what the heck, for this price you can get a second lead and a spare unit". I have never set this unit on 2 amps as I'm looking to maintain and not recharge a battery.

I first bought this system for use with wireless microphones that eat 9vdc batteries and do not perform well with the 7.2 volt rechargable nicad cells. The problem has always been that with the same number of cells inside the 9v stack at 1.2 V instead of 1.5V you loose .3 V x 6 cells or 1.8 volts which drops the typical rechargable cell from 9V to 7.2 V.

Transmitters don't work well on 7.2 volts of typical rechargable "9v" batteries. You also tend to want a fresh charge on your battery before use which is where this product comes in.

It adds an extra cell to get you 9.5 volts which is typical of normal batteries.

The con: The batteries are only about 230-250 mah instead of the alkaline 500 mah so you do not get the same runtime. The charger is well made and indicates when the cells are charged.

These are recommended for use when you know that you want a charged battery and don't mind recharging it when done (example using it for a wireless mic). The higher voltage will make the product work well and you won't be wondering if the battery is fully charged or not - you will know it is full every time. For people who use alot of 9V batteries, this will pay for itself in a short amount of time.

Ordered this charger, while it was the same model and had the same capability, got a cheaper version than what is pictured on the site. Charger shipped had the low end uninsulated type battery clamps rather than the nice heavy duty ones pictured on th website ad (like the ones you see on the 6 amp and lesser trickle chargers of same brand). Secondly, was under the impression that the charger had a reconditioning feature, which it did not.

1. Page 4 of the instructions booklet - "Preparing to Charge" item # 2. "it is necessary to remove battery from vehicle to charge..." - seems like "If" is missing in the front of the sentence, perhaps? Later on they give instructions how to charge a battery which is still in the vehicle...

2. Then when you follow all the instructions and connect POS (+) to POS (red) and NEG (-) (neg is grounded) to the chassis, the charger gives FAULT when 2/6/10 AMP button is pressed.

3. The AC power cord supposed to have a triple fork (grounded) yet the fork has no grounding nor an adapter enclosed. I suppose it's ok, yet not safe as per instructions. Some inconsistency in the instructions.

4. Just a few seconds into charging (battery removed from vehicle, all instructions followed precisely) the "Smart Battery Charger" displays "FUL" (Battery Fully Charged) yet battery is not charged much. When "Battery Voltage" check button pressed the unit displays 14,5 Volts (fully charged) yet the vehicle just makes a rattle noise when connected to the "fully charged" battery.

5. When left on "FUL" the battery charger does not automatically shut itself down as promised on the packaging and in the instruction.

6. Later on if still left on "FUL" it started displaying "F03" (Internal Open Cell), which is not true. The battery is fine, just needed charging.

Too many problems, not worth the time or money. AVOID!

I bought this charger after my hand held smart charger stopped working. I wanted a charger that had ample boost capability. I have used this charger a couple of times now and has worked flawlessly. I'm very pleased with its performance and very happy with the price. Please be aware that this is NOT a smart charger. I have owned several smart chargers (both high quality, $150 and low quality, $79)in the past and they have all either failed or were not accurate. This unit works very simple. Set the timer select the proper amperage and let it work. If you are unable to operate a manual charger I would recommend searching for good quality smart charger with very good reviews.

This charger is a very nice charger. Prospective buyers should be aware (I was) that there is no automatic shut-off when battery is fully charged. There is a timer to regulate the length of charging time. I did not realize by the specs & write up that the "tester" was a simple volt meter. I already own 3 or 4 of those on different testers. Even though there is a convenience factor to the meter being mounted in the charger - I would not have paid so much more for it had I realized a voltmeter was all that it is. Also I would have liked to see a sturdier set of wheels & tires that would make it roll better in gravel & dirt. I am certain that the high quality of this charger will give me many years of service. The 3 year manufacturers warranty is great. Shipping time was excellent.

Only had this charger for a couple months now... Main reasons I purchased this one was for the "auto jump start" and "auto shut off" features... First time out of the box was to use the "auto jump" feature to start my vintage mercedes convertible as someone (namely me) left an interior light on... :o Charger didn't even have enough UUMPHHH to turn the little 2.8L straight 6 over even once... :( Ended up jumping it with another vehicle... Upon return... I used the charger to fully charge the battery and it worked very well... Really like the auto shut off feature so you never have to worry about battery damage from overcharge if you forget and leave it on in the garage... As you can tell by now... Memory isn't what it used to be... :D

p.s. Let's hope it has enough UUMPHHH to start my lawn tractor... ;D

Heavy - steel and copper. Thats what counts in a charger and this one has both. Don't buy the lightweights from China. Made in Mexico, but its an old standby US design.

OKAY its a year later... this one died early on - they sent a new one after I retutned the bad one. That one died too. They quickly sent another without any return needed, and the rep sounded like he was Po'd at his company for allowing so much junk to go out the door. Now I have two working and one dead for spare parts, and even after the hassle these are still the most for the least on the market. You only other option is sears, and they appear to be made by Schumaker also, or harbor freight which should send its electric stuff with a death certificate.

You get an answering machine, and never receive a return call, ever !

The Documents leave out MANY ways that this item will respond to charge levels and charge cycles of various batteries, so it's off to the internet or trial and error if your unit does something that you don't understand. One of the tricks to this charger is to start out on 2 amp for about an hour, then raise up to 15 amp. When the charger reads full charge at 15 amps, drop to 2 amp and top the battery off for a full charge. It will take about 6 hours to charge a depleted battery.

The jump start barely started my car,but it did the trick,and it's a very hard to start car that sometimes won't jumpstart, so I was impressed.

It helps to charge a very dead battery for about 15 minutes before you jump start it with this unit.

For the price, everyone should own one of these. It's a great product, who's only MAJOR FLAW is the embarrassing lack of customer service. Schumacher Management should be ashamed of themselves.

Just got it today. Tried to start the car with it, but it wasn't enough juice, so I waited about three minutes with it set on 75A engine start mode. Started it successfully after that. Ran the car for 5 minutes. Turned off the engine and tried to start the car without the device. Success. Now it's charging in the garage. Looks good so far. I agree with the previous review that the extension cord is too short.

Do yourself a favor and stay away from this product. Save your money and your batteries, avoid this charger. It destroyed over $400 worth of car batteries for me. Briefly I purchased 4 of these chargers made by Chicago

Electric. I was going away for 3 months. Removed all 12 volt batteries from my vehicles. Bought 4 of these float chargers - (Chicago Electric made in china). Hooked up 1 to each battery. Checked output on each charger with fluke multimeter. Read ok. approx 12.7 volts.

Placed them on surge protector circuit . When returning after 90 days all batteries where dead. Reading from 5 volts to 11.99. $400 plus dollars of batteries ruined. If I had not hooked them up to anything I would have been better off. I got all my money back on the chargers. So what. They do not maintain a float charge on any battery . You would not notice if you tested for a short time as they drain battery slowly as they do not maintain 12.6 voltage. The circuitry has a defective design from factory on all these junk chargers. Hope this helps. PS they appear to be working(lights up and volt reading appears correct - but long term use will show they are defective. Is it possible I purchased a bad batch- maybe defective components- but I personally will buy another brand and test it for few weeks. buyer beware.

Well this is certainly what it says a good trickle charger which actually given enough time even with a stone dead battery (which must be at least functional) will bring it up to full charge.

I have used this on a Toyota Land Cruiser overnight bring a dead battery back and also a Mercedes SL500 which is difficult to jump since the battery is mounted in the trunk and it takes a heck of a jolt to kick the starter over. Just to much loss in a battery jump set up to do the initial kick ( a heavy duty battery pack works if you happen to have one). Found just plug this little devil in leave it overnight and bing bang up and running the next day.

Can't beat it for the $$ and compact size.

This is a pretty simple trickle charger. It doesn't provide much feedback, other than when it is on and when it is off. I don't think there should be any worry of overcharging, as it was designed to provide a constant "trickle" of power to keep a battery at top charge. I have owned and used this unit for the past year without any problems. If you want more feedback, buy a unit with gauges. If you are just looking to keep your bike (or lawnmower) starting on demand and want to save a few bucks, this unit is very good.

I bought this item because, at the time, it was advertised as shutting down when the charge was full. I see that this error has now been corrected on Amazon's web page. I wanted to use it to keep the battery on my tractor from discharging and freezing while the tractor was in the barn over the winter. However when I received it, the manual stated that it must be disconnected after full charge is done. If you can live with that, it should be fine. I never actually tried using it, as it didn't meet my requirements. Congrat's to Amazon for correcting the description.

I bought this charger for my Genie Scissor lift when it's on board battery charger failed. It works great on 24 volt "automatic" setting. However, when I tried charging a 12 volt battery (on the 12 volt setting, of course), it would only charge on "manual". On the 12 volt "automatic" setting, the charge indicator would swing from 0 to 100% like a pendulum. The manual said this could be due to a severely discharged battery, but when I charge the battery with another charger an then attached this one, it did the same thing.

Since I mainly bought it for the 24 volt setting, I am happy with it. I have note had any problems with the handle that another reviewer mentioned.

I did a bit of research before purchasing this product. If you want a quick charge, I have read that your battery won't last as long. For battery life, the ideal charge is low amerage. I appreciate that this charger provides a low amp charge to the battery. I had an older battery charger that I believe prematurely destroyed one of my 12v batteries, so I did my best to find the best value replacement. As a matter of fact, the way I saw the older charger behaving (according to my digital multimeter), I was concerned that it could cause the battery to explode or start a fire. I decided to get a new one. I looked at all of the battery chargers I could find on Amazon and other sites. Eventually, I settled on this particular model for these reasons:

1. Provides a low amperage charge, which is supposed to help prolong battery life.

2. Desulphination mode, which is supposed to help prolong battery life.

3. Safety shutoff features, so that it doesn't overcharge the battery.

4. Reads the battery polarity and illuminates a red light if you have it reversed.

5. Excellent review on Amazon and other sites that sell battery chargers.

I've only been using the battery minder for a couple of months, but I think it is working well. The recharges and maintenance modes seem appropriate. The batteries seem to last a long time after I charge them. This product seems to be living up to the claims and ratings. I am impressed.

I've been using the small BatteryMinders (the 1.3 Amp maintainers) for the past few years and decided that for some of my larger batteries, especially the deep cycle setup used in conjunction with a set of solar panels, that I needed something that was capable of pushing much more than 1.3 Amps. Enter this product with its 2 / 4 / 8 Amp settings and the ability to automatically reduce the Amp "push" and start cycling the battery (or in my case batteries, as I have 4 large deep cycle batteries connected in parallel) with a maintenance charge.

So far I've been very happy with this product as I have been with the 1.3 Amp BatteryMinder in the past. The construction is solid, a direct-wire connector is included, the ability to connect directly with included clips is great, and there isn't that "it's going to break next week" cheap feel that some of the other competing products have (I bought a used bike and a competing product came with it - now it is hooked up to a BatterMinder and the other charger is sitting in a box).

If you have need to keep a large battery or bank of batteries well maintained and on a steady charge, be they for your trolling motor or a battery backup for your sump pump (because the power always seems to fail during a rain storm just when you need that pump most), I strongly recommend this product.

I installed this for my 4 very large house batteries on my RV. Since it cost about $1800 dollars to replace those batteries I am interested in getting as long a life as possible. It has been in place for about 2 weeks and so far it is doing what I expected. The batteries hold a charge longer than before. This type of battery in Arizona normally lasts about 4 years, and this set is 18 months old and beginning to show its age. But with this device installed they are back to about 95% of what they were when they were new. My only complaint is about the temperature sensor that can be used with the unit, it does not come with the device, but is an extra cost option. I think it should be included since it provides a feature of the device.

I've been looking for a battery maintainer/charger to hook up to a car that I put in storage during the winter months. I came across this compact gem and was surprised that for the price it is a maintainer, discharger, and tester.

It comes with nice and long cables and is in a very nicely designed box (that appeals to the gear-head in us) with easy to read LCD screen and LED indicators. The cables allow you to hook up to your battery using alligator clips or have a semi-permanent hook-up with a quick disconnect.

All I had to do was hook the cables to it, plug it into a wall-outlet, hook the other end to the battery and that was it. Like the description says, this will not overcharge your battery so you can leave it hooked up indefinitely.

Well worth the purchase.

We have a bad habit of not making sure the door is closed properly and we frequently come out to the car to find the battery dead. This jump-starter works like a champ! Ours did arrive with a charge and we mistakenly thought it was ready-to-go straight from the box. Not so, Kemo Sabe. Charge it for 24 hours just like the pretty manual tells you. One thing to note...the manual walks you through how to hook it up to your battery and states to "see step number 7;" but get this; there is no #7. Ha!

I like the additional features on the box, too - the air compressor and the light make it a great item to take camping. I'm very pleased with the decision to buy this item.

Todate this has been a great addition to my automotive & marine (boat) battery charging needs. It is compact but has all the essential things I needed for my battery charging needs. I have standard wet cell batteries in my automobile gas & diesel engines. My boat has deep cycle AGM batteries. This charger is capable of handling these two diffrent battery charges with no problem. The construction of the battery charger seems well built and the cables and clips appear quality built. It still is early to say how this battery charger will hold up as it gets cycled between charges of my vehicles/boat. I will also use it to keep my lawn tractor battery up to snuff. The only thing I noticed is the LED screen is not so bright when viewing charge status in the daylight even when shaded. So far I'm satisfied with the product.

I bought one of these 2 years and 10 days ago. I bought a second unit 1.5 years ago. One goes to the desert and is so smart I use it to replace my on board RV charging system. $[...] for this Smart Charger... or $[...] for a Smart On Board RV Charger... you do the math.

The unit that goes to the desert had a fan failure. I replaced it for $[...]. Good enough for me. The newer unit I rarely use that looks brand new just cooked two batteries. I didn't realize the charger went bad. I thought the batteries were junk cause they are old. But after swapping chargers I find that the newer unit was blowing max amps and boiling the crap out of the batteries... It could have started a fire for sure. Not happy with this.

Amazon has always said 2 year warranty on this unit like many retailers... but the B&D site says 5 years. So I called the service center that confirmed it is 5 Years Home User Warranty. They just happen to be located by my office so I'll drop it off tomorrow to the service center. They DON'T REPAIR them. They said B&D will send me a replacement unit directly within 14 days to my home no charge.

I loved the functionality of these chargers and I'll keep using them. Disappointed with the meltdown and worry about what if I had not been here to find the charger smoking my car. But thrilled with the warranty and service. In the future, I'll be pulling my batteries from my cars and charge them in a safe location. When I ran a shop years ago this was SOP for my guys. No burned down cars because of a bad battery or charger on my watch. I just need to practice what I preach.

And the really nice thing about buying here at Amazon... I don't even need to dig out my original receipt because I can print it from Amazon's records. NICE !

Every carlot, fleet vehicle shop and auto mechanic should have one or more of these! It desuplhaves batteries, restores cells that are weak and has saved more money than it cost in less than a week. Simple to use, you need to have more than 1. Desuplhating a battery takes 24 hours so buy 2. Or better - buy more so you have the ability to handle many batteries at a time.

We were demonstated this product and have one and need to buy a few more. Our best recommendation.

I've dramatically uprated this from 1 to 4 stars. Why? Well, you can see my original review below. According to the paperwork packaged with the one I got, the warranty is invalid if you haven't registered it in the first 30 days. HOWever, I decided to take it to the B&D warranty repair center anyhow, a bit of a trip so I waited until I'd be nearby. Well, they couldn't have been nicer. Just took my name, looking at the manufacturing code, and said they'd ship me a new one. Danged if they didn't, too - within a week I had it. My actual experience with Dewalt warranty service was excellent. So now the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that it broke in the first place under normal use, and that the weasel-worded warranty paperwork nearly stopped me from trying to get it repaired under warranty. So ignore the warranty paperwork inside and just take it to Dewalt if it breaks.

I bought this from amazon and put it on the shelf for when I'd need it. Nobody actually needs to recharge their battery and orders one mailorder for a specific job, right?

Well, I opened it and used it about 5 months ago, seemed to work fine for the light duty I put it to. However, today I tried it and it was kaflooey, an error message and no recovery, the little fan doesn't go anymore to cool it, etc. This was just normal usage, no mistaken polarity, just used on a 12v car battery.

When I got it last year, it offered a 5 year warranty, not just the two years the Amazon ad claims now. Well, still, it broke within two years, so no harm, right? I'll just eat the shipping and mail it back for a fix.

WRONG! Reading the fine print, not "registering" it within 30 days of original purchase voids the warranty! Heck, I don't even think I GOT it for two weeks after the purchase date. I was supposed to open it and tear it apart looking for the fine-print warranty card the day it arrived? Didn't say that in the Amazon ad OR the outside of the box.

So it's junk. I got 5 months' use out of it before it failed during light normal use. I'll be checking into state laws RE sleazy warranties, but I thought as a public service I should let you know it's got a sleazy warranty. If you buy this, search the fine print and register it the day you get it, because in my experience it'll break a lot sooner than the warranty expires.

I bought this unit to charge my deep cycle house batteries as well as my starting battery for my boat.

I know my batteries are in good shape...just wanted to top them off for winter. I followed the instructions to the tee and the unit just kept flashing between error code F03 and 000. This says that the batteries are sulfated (which I know they are not). It would not charge any of my batteries. I tried to call black and decker for technical support....um....lets just say I would have had better luck asking my 6 year old.

I returned the unit and bought a less expensive schumacher model 1500 which started working right off.

I also called Trojan Battery [Great Company] and asked them for recommendations for chargers....the person I spoke to listed several. Black and Decker was not on the list.

It's winter in Chicago and I didn't want to take chances with an unreliable battery. Too bad I got stuck with an unreliable-junk charger!

I have the black & decker unit with an F03 problem (model VEC 1095ABD). It has worked well for about 8-9 months, but now it shows only the F03 on any battery (including ones that are operating normally and are charged). I am very disappointed with this unit and it has turned me off from black & decker. The unit is made by a 3rd party OEM (Vector Manufacturing). Previously I owned a Schumacher and it worked well for 10+ years before it was accidentally broken. Anyway, I am going back to Schumacher!

Bought this to charge a marine battery and didn't expect to use it much. But I was wrong, courtesy of a balky lawn mower and an aging car. The charger does just what it's supposed to do and does it well. As a bonus, it's very light and portable.

Didn't pay any attention to the quick jump feature when I bought it but it bailed me out recently when I left the lights on in the car and killed the battery. Attached the cables, charged it up, the car turned over and I was out the driveway.

It may or may not have worked. However, it requires you to monitor the battery being charged, and remove it before over charging! For a few bucks more (sometimes less), you can get a trickle charger that can be left attached to the battery indefinitely (all winter) without causing damage. Just hook it up and forget it! Don't waste money on a manual trickle charger.

I bought this unit back in 2002 for those rare dead battery situations and so it has sat around unused for the majority of that time. Recently I have been trying to revive a troubled battery and have been using it more often - typically a few minutes every day. It has served me VERY well. One complaint I heard elsewhere was regarding the lack of a light for the meter, which I will echo here. It does seem odd that they have a power-on LED, but no light for the meter itself.

One little concern that hasn't really been a problem for me is that fact that it WILL put out much more than 2 amps in the 2 amp charging mode. I have a Fluke digital ammeter and have checked the charger on a few occasions now when charging batteries. The 2 amp mode has been normally putting out between 3 and 6 amps. The manual (which covers 3 different models) is not real clear about this, so I thought I would elaborate. Between reading the manual and my own observations, I will say that the 10 amp mode starts out at 10 with a drained battery and tapers off down to 5 amps (when it will automatically shut off), whereas the 2 amp mode seems to start as high as 7 amps and tapers down to .34 amps(and shuts off).

I bought this charger 3 months ago and it failed this morning when I plugged it in. There was no load on the charger as the alligator clips were well separated and definitely not short circuited. Being an engineer I took the cover off, traced the circuit diagram and ohmed-out the transformer to find that the transformer had failed. It is not repairable.

UL approval requires that the hot wire of the power line first go to a circuit protection device (fuse or circuit breaker). There is no visible fuse or circuit breaker in the 120V circuit. The hot power wire goes directly to the transformer, which is a gross UL violation, unless there is a fuse inside the transformer, which I cannot determine since it is a sealed unit. The neutral wire goes to a switch which chooses different transformer taps for different output current settings. Thus, it appears that the 120V circuit must be protected by the house circuit breaker.

A small point, the 50 amp. output is unlikely since there is a 35 amp. 12 volt breaker in series with the negative DC output lead. This, of course, does not protect the AC side of the circuit.

Be very careful with this product as it may be a fire waiting to happen. If you own one I suggest that you place it on a concrete floor far away from any combustible materials. Do not place this unit on a wooded work bench while plugged in to AC power.

The device successfully staerted my vehicle. The battery was completely dead, and the device must see some voltage to operate. A telephone call to Schumacher for technical support afforded a work around, which was successful.

In addition to starting my car with a dead battery, I use the device as a 12 volt power supply in my apartment, which keeps my GPS and other devices charged. It will also furnish supplementary emergency light during periods when we lose power due to hurricanes or other emergencies.

I wouldn't use the claws for seasonal storage as they could disconnect or short. Even during the cutting season, I plug it back into the charger/maintaner to keep the battery at full charge. They include a cigarette lighter attachment for folks who need to take it on the road. I never tried it so I can't comment on how good it is.

The not-so-good: None as far as I can tell. I think Schumacher makes a good product and it's a perfect size for a shelf near your tractor or other battery equipment. Don't expect to be charging full size batteries but I'm sure it would work in an emergency if you had nothing else around.

My rating: 5-Stars you can't go wrong and the price is great along with the peace of mind buying with Amazons return policy.

Bought the 7500A model to charge my grampa's car that hasn't been driven since the beginning of the year and wow. At first, the 1st charge stopped after 3-4 hours with the digital display flashing all 888888's. I unplugged the machine then left for the day came back the next day around noon and the completely dead battery that wouldn't crank or click the solenoid start after a few gas pedal pumps and cranking. The car then cranked and started another 3 more times for the afternoon's car positioning in and out the garage. I later decided after ready to go home to leave the charger connected and in maintain mode til the next day which has yet to come. Anyhow this charger is really compact and handy around the house instead of wheeling out a full sized charger and not being able to hide the damn thing if you wanna leave it outside for an extended amount of time. It can be easily hidden under the car too. Can't think of any really negative comments other than the battery clamps could be bigger and the cables could be longer.

The Schumacher SC-8000A Speedcharge Charger/Maintainer is not meant to be used as a 2-amp trickle charger for an automobile, but that was not clear until I received the item and read the instruction manual.

I ordered this to be a trickle charger/maintenance charger for my Mazda Miata's small battery and to jump start it when needed. It is a small battery by car standards, but per Schumacher Model SC-8000A, a "small" battery is defined as "those commonly used in garden tractors, snow mobiles and motorcycles."

By Schumacher standards, my battery is a "regular"/"larger" battery and per the instructions, it will charge my Mazda Miata car battery at 12-30 amps. It is not meant to charge my car's battery at the 2-amp rate. The instructions for the Schumacher SC-8000A Speedcharge Charger/Maintainerinstructions state:

"The 2A rate is not intended to be used as a trickle charger for larger batteries."

I am returning it and instead getting the Battery Tender Plus, which with its slow 1.25-amp charge will not harm my car's battery. From speaking with mechanics and Mazda, it doesn't sound like a good idea to charge my Miata's relatively small battery (when compared to the size of other car batteries) at a rate of 12 amps to 30 amps. I realize the Battery Tender Plus is not a jump starter, but it is a trickle charger, and I need a trickle charger that won't harm my battery.

Here are the instructions as printed on page 9 of the instruction manual for the Schumacher SC-8000A Speedcharge:

"CHARGE SET BUTTON

Use this button to set the maximum charge rate to one of the following:

*SMALL BATTERY: Provides a charge rate of up to 2A. Intended for charging small batteries such as those commonly used in garden tractors, snow mobiles and motorcycles. ***The 2A rate is not intended to be used as a trickle charger for larger batteries.***

*REGULAR BATTERY: Provides a charge rate of up to 12A-30A depending on the battery. Use for charging normal or large batteries. Not intended for industrial applications."

Other things I noticed about this product:

1. To operate the Schumacher SC-8000A Speedcharge Charger/Maintainer, you must know what kind of battery you have. The SC-8000A has 4 settings: 12V Regular, 12V Deep Cycle, 12V AGM/Gel, and 6V Regular. My Miata battery is a 12V AGM/Gel, but I had to do a lot of research to determine what type of battery I had. You can't just go by whether or not the battery has vent caps. With the Battery Tender Plus, no research is necessary. Just connect the positive and negative clamps to your battery and you are set.

2. When using the Schumacher SC-8000A, if it is a negative-grounded system, you connect the red (positive) output clamp to the positive post, but the negative clamp *cannot* and *must not* be connected to the negative post. You have to connect the negative clamp to, according to the SC-8000A's instructions, "a heavy, unpainted metal part of the chassis or engine block, away from the battery." And "DO NOT connect clamp to negative battery post, carburetor, fuel line or sheet metal part." Since my Miata's battery is located in the trunk, near no engine parts nor other metal parts, there is nothing to clip the negative clamp onto besides the trunk, which I can't do since it cannot be connected to a "sheet metal part." There is nothing else for the negative clamp to be connected to in my trunk. (The same holds true when using the SC-8000A for positive-grounded systems and connecting the positive clamp: you cannot and must not connect the positive clamp to the positive post.) This feels counterintuitive to me.

With the Battery Tender Plus, I can connect both positive and negative clamps to my battery's terminals. I don't have to worry about finding some other part of the car to clamp on the battery to. I don't have to figure out whether my system is a "negative-grounded system" or a "positive grounded system," which I must determine if I am going to use the Schumacher SC-8000A. Sure, the Battery Tender Plus won't jump start a dead battery, but at least it can maintain it.

For that matter, the Schumacher SC-8000A won't jump start a dead battery, either. Not without following the manual instructions I have included at the end of this review.

3. This Schumacher product is larger and heavier than I anticipated. The Battery Tender Plus is extremely small and lightweight. I don't like moving or carrying the Schumacher SC-8000A. It is too heavy for me.

4. The warning about washing your hands after touching the cables due to lead exposure is disconcerting. "Handling the cord on this product or cords associated with accessories sold with this product, may expose you to lead, a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. Wash hands after handling."

5. IMPORTANT NOTE: ***For those who want to use this to jump a completely dead battery, per a Schumacher representative, it can be done using the following steps:

A. Connect charger to battery.

B. Hold down the charge rate button. While you hold this down, plug the charger in to electrical power source.

C. Let the button go once the charger is plugged in.

D. This sets it in "manual mode." Leave it on Manual Mode for about 2-3 minutes.

E. Unplug from electrical power source (while leaving it still connected to battery).

F. Replug back in to electrical power source. The surge inside will activate the charging mode in a completely dead battery.

I have had various 12v battery chargers. The ones that I have usually bought were trickle charge types. My first one did not have a sensor and I blame that for killing a 1 year old garden tractor battery. My second unit that I bought for $30 or so had a sensor to avoid overcharging. It lasted 10-15 years but it started to have problems. It just seems to stopped charging altogether when its 'trouble' light came on. It started becoming frustrating when all my automotive batteries started to die about the same time and the charge just did not work. Thank the lord that I now have what appears to be a really good unit.

So far I have successfully used the Schumacher SC-8000A to trickle charge my garden tractor battery, jump start my car, rapid charge my diesel truck (which as diesel owners know, has two batteries), and rapid charge an auxiliary battery (an Optima YellowTop). I did try to jump start my diesel truck and it did not work. I only tried to crank it once and I wasn't sure that it would work. Once you crank it, the unit prevents you from trying again for several minutes. I was not in a hurry so I rapid charged it myself. So far I am satisfied. I am hoping that it continues to work well and lasts a long time. Time will only tell.

This is the first of two B&D battery chargers that I have had that ceased working within two uses. While it seems decent enough at first, the single push button control doesn't provide much info when you can't get off the "fault" light. I have followed all of the instructions, tested the power sources, and even attempted to charge different batteries. It's just not working anymore and I couldn't have babied it more than I did.

If you are looking for a product that will do what it says (and presumably that's why you bought it) every time you use it then this isn't for you. Sure, it's cute and friendly looking, but when you need a battery charged, you want it charged. This unit didn't do it for me. With the money I've invested going into my third charger/starter I could have bought a commercial unit instead that would have delivered on its promise. (sigh)

I use this charger to charge a car battery, which I use with my UPS to keep my entertainment system up when power goes out (I live in Panama, where power goes out a lot). I also another one for my computer/router/Internet POE.

I use a simple, cheap UPS, remove the internal 12V battery, make my cable to connect to the now-empty terminals on the UPS, then connect to normal terminal lugs on the battery. I then clip the leads from this charger to the battery. When power goes out, the charger is not doing anything, so doesn't get involved. The battery (60 Ahr when using this charger) provides enough juice for 1.5-2 hrs of TV. When power comes back on, the charger automatically charges the battery back up. For $30, I can't beat it. I've been using this model for 3 years. I own 3 of them. Highly rated.

[But don't buy too many -- they might jack up the price! :-)]

Worked as advertised. Although the instructions said to ground negative on car metal part - since most parts are painted, this did not work. I attached the negative wire to negative post on battery and it worked fine.

I recharged 2 dead car batteries - 3-4 hours each on 10 amp setting.

Considering what new batteries cost, I felt it was a very good investment. An article I read said over 50% of dead batteries turned in are still good and just need a recharge.

Be sure to use only distilled water to refill the battery.

I'll translate: If top light is green and bottom if off, the battery is charging. If the top light is green and the bottom light is red, you battery is charged. I have a range of farm equipment and was looking for a small, lite charger.

The Schumacher SSC-1500A (assume the SSC-1000A) 10 Amp is about the same) works

OK - sometimes. However in charging a good but half charged tractor battery

the % charged stuck at 100%, during charging which indicated it may not shut off.

A seperate AMP meter indicated a 14 AMPs charge. (The AMP meter must have very low

internal resistance; mine has 2.5 milli-ohms). Charging Auto batteries quickly tapers to about

10 Amps or less. - This is not really a full 15A charger. The charger sorely lacks

an amp meter - an amp toggle setting could have been added for almost nothing.

My guess of why its not included is to not disappoint when seeing the actual charge rate.

I added an Amp meter (which almost every other cheap charger has). Not difficult

This unit is everything the company says it is. Surely you have heard people talk about a "battery tender". Well, this is it! A very good model that does everything most people would expect. I have two of these units now, mounted on a single shelf and ready to be plugged into our Harleys when the weather turns to yuck. I have a sports car with a gel cel battery that isn't driven daily. Before I bought this product, the battery would often die and I'd have to jump start it. Several people recommended this product to me and it works great. I use the cigarette lighter attachment with this and leave it connected to my car whenever I'm not driving it. There are lights that indicate that it's on, and whether it's charging or not.

I've been using the conventional version of this same charger for years to maintain my motorcycle battery. When I recently replaced it, the battery had outlived its expected life by about three years and the person I talked to at the dealership accredited this directly to the fact that I kept the battery on a tender. When I got a new battery it was a newer gel cell model, so I purchased this new battery tender. It works just as well as the old one, and expect that I'll see the same extended life on the new battery. This is a must-have for any motorcyclist, or anyone else that used a seasonal vehicle that uses a 12v battery. Plug it in for the winter and forget about it... It is compact, reliable, and the quick disconnect wiring makes it easy to plug in other adapters. Just make sure you're getting the right battery tender for the type of battery you have! I primarily use this charger to keep the battery on my motorcycle charged up when sitting dormant for weeks at a time. The unit comes with two sets of leads that can plug into the unit. The leads consist of traditional alligator clips and eyelets. I have the eyelet leads permanently bolted to my battery with the plug accessible without having to remove the battery. The unit also comes with a nice storage pouch with a nice sleeve to keep the instructions in. The product is very streamline and easy to use. The price is very reasonable compared to other products (which are unusually big and bulky). I'm extremely satisfied with this product and highly recommend it.

I ordered the CTEK 3300 Charger after seeing this product at the 2009 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. I spoke with the factory reps. and decided that this product was just what I need to keep my battery ready to go in my Trans Am which I drive only on pleasure trips. Up to this time I had been considering getting the "other" battery maintaince product (you know who I am talking about). I did have a question and nobody at Amazon could answer it for me. I would have ordered more accessories with this product but the photo on the Amazon.com webpage showed the older version of this product and nobody could tell me if the item was now shipping with the new "comfort connection" system. When I received this product, it indeed did come with the new connectors. If I had known this, I would have ordered more accessories. Overall, this product is fantastic, I have nothing but priase for this product. Try it and you will be pleased.
